Register with Google for Maps
You can get free links to your site from Google maps and
other Google sites provided you let Google know where you are
located.
Maps-based data needs to be accurate in geographic terms and
so Google takes steps to verify the physical location of
business that register with it.
To get started, you need to tell Google where you are and
then select some means of verification.

One of the things that is important to remember if you are
going after local business is that you need to make it clear to
visitors to your website that you ARE local. If you don't do
this, your visitors may decide you are miles away and bounce
off your site which will increase your overall bounce rate.
